FSE CALLS FOR A REVIEW OF UEFA CLUB COMPETITIONS & FAN INVOLVEMENT IN THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL

In the past 24 hours, the world of European football has rightly condemned the reckless plans of a few wealthy clubs to create their own closed franchise league. Fans of these clubs are just as repelled as the rest of us, with many issuing strongly worded statements of opposition. Football Supporters Europe (FSE) stands in solidarity with them.

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) believes that proposals to reform UEFA club competitions by expanding the UEFA Champions League are deeply flawed. They will not solve any of the problems that fans care about—on the contrary, they have the potential to make them much worse.

UEFA PROVIDES UPDATE ON EURO 2020 TICKETING

Update 1: On 20th January, UEFA amended its FAQs to say that if a “match is moved to a venue which is more than 50 km (31 miles) away from the original venue, ticket buyers would be entitled to a full refund of the ticket price if they cannot or do not wish to attend.”

1 IN 3 UEFA CLUB COMPETITIONS GAMES HOSTED HOME FANS

UEFA’s most recent return-to-play protocols allow spectators to attend both international and club competitions fixtures. The number of spectators is capped at 30 percent of a stadium’s capacity. This explicitly exclude away fans, who are barred from attending games “until further notice.”

On 25^th August, the UEFA Executive Committee announced that the 2020 Super Cup would take place at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest, Hungary, in front of a reduced number of spectators.
