AFTER THE GROUP STAGE: THERE COULD HAVE BEEN MORE MATCHES WITHOUT TROUBLES AT THIS EURO2016

The group stage of EURO 2016 showed that much fewer problems occurred wherever authorities cooperated constructively with leading fan groups from the Fans Embassies as part of the solution and facilitated a good atmosphere for the majority, especially at high-risk matches. We call for a reinforcement of a sincere dialogue with supporters’ representatives in order to foster the early prevention of troubles for the rest of this UEFA EURO 2016.

STATEMENT OF THE CROATIAN FANS ASSOCIATION UVIJEK VJERNI ON HOOLIGAN ATTACKS IN SAINT-ETIENNE

We are hereby documenting the statement from the national umbrella of Croatian national team fans on events in Saint-Etienne at their match against Czech Republic on 17 June at EURO 2016 where Croatian supporters were seen fighting inside the stands, throwing pyro on the pitch, almost seriously injuring a steward with a banger that went off when he wanted to clear it off the pitch.

We believe it is extremely important to take their views and work into account for an appropriate assessment of events in Saint-Etienne and would hope that any UEFA sanction would award this proactive commitment against hooliganism from the side of fans accordingly. Find their statement below:

In the following, you can find statements from the supporters running the Fans Embassy England from the Football Supporters Federation (FSF) and the Fans Embassy Russia who were on the ground in Marseille and first hand witnesses of the violence happening in the city around matchday. Both serve as a very useful reminder that, as we have long argued as football fans from across Europe, you should never judge a whole nation’s fans on the basis of the behaviour of a small minority. Read their full statements here:

Statement from the Fans’ Embassy Russia:

“The Fans’ Embassy Russia team expresses its regret about the situation with riots involving Russian fans in Marseille. We strongly believe that such behaviour is not the norm for our citizens who are traveling to support the Russian national team in France. We are very sorry for those English people who have been injured and are now in hospital. We wish them the fastest recovery.
