NEW CEO AT FOOTBALL SUPPORTERS EUROPE: RONAN EVAIN TAKES OVER

As you might remember, we were looking for a new CEO for Football Supporters Europe earlier in the summer. Out of several interesting applications the FSE Committee chose Ronan Evain to follow Daniela Wurbs from the beginning of November.

Ronan, who has his roots in the active supporters’ movement in France, has worked as an academic and an electoral expert. In 2015 he joined FSE as our project manager for the RESPECT FAN CULTURE – Fans’ Embassies project which he successfully led before and during EURO 2016 in France.

NORWAY: FANS TAKE RESPONSIBLE USE OF PYROTECHNICS IN FOOTBALL TO THE NEXT LEVEL

Football fans in Norway have taken another major step towards illustrating their commitment to minimising risks and supporting the responsible use related to pyrotechnics in football: they teamed up with producers to develop safety certificates in line with EU standards that would allow the use of specific pyrotechnical devices inside football grounds.

The move followed a development of increasing prohibition of pyrotechnical devices in Norwegian football by some police and fire brigades claiming that the devices weren’t designed for the use inside football stadia. Other than that, the general use of pyrotechnics is generally allowed for supporters under controlled conditions in Norwegian stadia.

FSE & UN FACILITATED A JOINT SESSION AGAINST DISCRIMINATION IN FOOTBALL IN RUSSIA

On 13 October 2016, representatives of Football Supporters Europe (FSE) were part of a workshop to promote diversity and a discrimination and violence-free environment in international football as part of an International Sports Forum in Dobrograd, Russia.

The one-day session was organized by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human rights in cooperation with FSE and the Russian Ministry of Sport.

EURO 2016: FANS’ EMBASSIES LOOK BACK AT SUCCESSFUL BUT CHALLENGING TOURNAMENT

Just like the new European Champions Portugal, Football Supporters Europe can announce that the Fans’ Embassies teams can look back at their most successful tournament in history: fan volunteers from 19 participating countries were in operation to guide travelling fans through all stages of EURO 2016. At the same time, a critical evaluation of the security concepts at the tournament is due.
