FSE RELEASES ITS UEFA EURO 2022 FANS’ EMBASSIES REPORT

Uefa Euro 2022 broke countless records with previously unseen attendances for a women’s international tournament. It also marked the first dedicated Fans’ Embassies project in women’s football by Football Supporters Europe.

Nine fans’ embassies working in conjunction with FSE were in operation during Uefa Euro 2022, with five fans embassies – England, Finland, Northern Ireland, Spain and Sweden – working in on the ground.

Our report summarises the experiences of fans’ embassies which were present in England for the tournament. It reviews and sets out recommendations to continue the development of fans’ embassies for future women’s football tournaments.

Matt Willis, FSE’s Fans’ Embassies Project Manager said

“The Uefa Euro 2022 fans’ embassies project was a success for supporters. The report sets out clear opportunities for learning for event organisers, national associations and fans’ embassies alike in its recommendations to ensure positive experiences for supporters at future international fixtures.”

This work ultimately helps supporters attend tournaments with confidence, safe in the knowledge that they have a familiar trusted point of reference should they need any support, or simply to join and meet with fellow fans. This initial fans’ embassies project lays fantastic foundations for future tournaments, particularly Euro 2025. “
