This resulted in multiple cases when away fans had to pay more than double the effective prices for home supporters. RCS Anderlecht and FC Sevilla even reached the record price of 100EUR in the away sector. Regrettably, at least one case is already recorded this season for the forthcoming fixture between FC Valencia and Manchester United. These unfair, punitive prices raise concerns on the capacity of a growing number of dedicated football fans to follow their club abroad. The presence of those away fans in substantial numbers is a key part of the spectacle and atmosphere of UEFA Club Competitions.
Football fans are facing various challenges when traveling to their team’s European away matches, from late fixtures to visa requirements, ticket prices or policing style. In order to reach an improvement of the situation for away fans, Football Supporters Europe (in cooperation with FanVox) launched in 2017 a survey to monitor conditions in away sectors.
Registrations are still open until 16 July 2018.
The exhibition tour starts on 8 September (St. Pauli Museum / Hamburg) including various events related to the topic. The full program and further information on the exhibition itself can be found here. Tour dates are already set until March 2019, further applications to host the exhibition (up until October 2019) have been placed already.
FSE welcomes this decision.
The EFFC of Football Supporters Europe (FSE) takes place every second year and is the biggest gathering of football fans of its kind, and the only event where they can regularly exchange views with decision-makers and stakeholders in international football.
During the whole tournament, FSE is coordinating and facilitating a whole range of fans’ activities, with the support of the Russian Football Union, Rosturism and the host cities. The 1st week of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia has seen FSE member associations and partners organizing Fans’ Embassies, fanwalks and friendly matches between supporters in every host city of the competition. Fans and supporters’ organisations from 20 participating nations are involved in the project.
The 2018 edition was hosted by UNIPES - the second largest coordination of Peñas in Gijón with 42 member organisations, in association with the national umbrella organisation FASFE. Together they organised an extensive programme which allowed the participants to discover Spanish fan activism, discuss the common challenges faced by all away fans in Spain and exchanges good practices based on various European experiences.
Elena Erkina (Fans’ Embassy Russia), Robert Ustian (FSE Committee) and Ronan Evain (FSE CEO) presented to media representatives the scope of the project and commented on the state of preparation of the competition.
A good reason to introduce UNIPES to our membership.
