sfs1In autumn 2014, the members of Football Supporters Europe (FSE) started a donation campaign under the name All Colours Are Beautiful! SECOND FAN SHIRT” (#secondfanshirt) on 21 October 2014, to do their bit to make a contribution to improving the devastating situation of refugees.

The frightening war scenarios across the world are currently leaving millions of people stranded close to the war zones or in the middle of Europe. Some are still living in a conflict region in the middle of Europe under desperate conditions, like in Ukraine, others fled to our neighborhoods from war zones to save their lives, e.g. from Syria. And some of them are also members of Football Supporters Europe (FSE).

Most of them are left with nothing more than the set of clothes they were wearing when they left. We believe that giving these people all possible support is one of the most pressing issues of our time. Many football fans all over Europe are already active in supporting refugee projects as matter of social responsibility in many different ways: be it through organizing clothing collections for refugees in war zones or in the countries they had to flee to, be it by providing logistical help to them, or by getting them to watch or to play football and thereby integrating them in their new communities.

Our initiative “SECOND FAN SHIRT” is not intending to reinvent the wheel – we’d much rather bring different fan initiatives involved in clothing collections together across Europe, and encourage more fans to engage in similar actions, to do our bit as football supporters in Europe to make the life of refugees and the football lovers among them at least a little better. It could literally affect any of us one day, too, so we should help one another already today.

DONATIONS AND AUCTIONS

More than 100 supporter initiatives from 10 European countries have since taken action in order to do their bit to improve the devastating situation of refugees across the globe. It is also worth highlighting that quite a few football clubs have joined the campaign alongside their supporters. All of them deserve a big round of applause for this commitment!

Many scarves, shirts, jackets and other fan and football clothes have been collected and either donated directly to local refugee projects or sent to FSE, either with the purpose to provide refugees in the war zones with warm clothes or to have valuable football merchandise articles sold on Ebay to raise some money to fund refugee aid programmes.

PLACE YOUR BID!

Auctions can be followed on the Charity Account of FSE on EBAY and we are calling for all football lovers to place their bids!

Get yourselves some brilliant fan and club merchandise and also think of your friends and families! We have some extraordinary and rare stuff to sell – whether it is really old football kits or current jerseys signed exclusively by some of the current top footballers in Europe! The more money these items can generate in the Ebay auctions, the better! All profits generated from the sales will be wired straight into refugee aid projects selected by the FSE membership participating in the actions.

IT’S YOUR TURN! GET INVOLVED! DONATE YOUR SECOND FAN SHIRT!

And it is still not too late to join the Second Fan Shirt campaign! We are still calling for football supporters all across Europe to get active and donate clothes, or to organise clothing collections for all sorts of fan and football merchandise that have been getting dusty in your cupboards for ages: jerseys, scarves, blankets, training jackets, woollen hats, football trousers, footballs, bed sheets… literally any football or fan merchandise that you don’t need any more but that could be valuable for an auction or useful and brightening up the days of kids or adults in the refugee centers.

It is really easy to take part, and every form of donation initiative is welcome! Let’s show together that football supporters stand side by side in support with the refugees as the most tragically affected victims by the current conflicts around the world.
